A mobile app called Rakshak has been launched by Lucknow University to enable students in distress to call for immediate assistance. The app also works outside the campus, and will help the authorities in keeping a check on ragging.
Lucknow University has come up with a brilliant app for students from the university who might find themselves stuck in an emergency. So freshers who are scared of ragging, or other students who might be in some kind of distress, now have a place where they can reach out for help.
The mobile app, Rakshak, launched on August 15, will enable users to send SOS alerts in case of any emergency, and the message will directly reach a helpline.
As the app is GPS enabled, university authorities will locate the victim’s position as soon as the message is received and will provide timely assistance.
It can be downloaded on Android phones, and will not just be restricted to the university campus. If a student needs support even outside the campus, he or she can use the app. The users will have to feed their mobile numbers, enrolment numbers and email id for registration.
A one-time password (OTP) will be sent to the mobile number of the user which will be used to complete the registration process. This is to ensure that only genuine users have access to the app.
There is also an SOS number associated with the app where students can call in case they need help. They can also send out SOS alerts message or sound clip and all their details are kept confidential.
