Passengers without confirmed train tickets may soon have an alternative — they may use the same wait listed ticket to board another train plying on the same route.
If you are a frequent train passenger, you must have been wait-listed a few times during your travels at least. So what did you do? Wait to see whether your ticket was confirmed when the chart went up, or decided not to take the risk and cancelled and rebooked on another train?
Keeping in mind the inconvenience caused to wait listed passengers, the Railways is considering letting them use the same ticket for a confirmed seat or berth on another train on the same route.

This will prevent the problem of cancelling and rebooking for passengers, and also help the Railways fill up empty trains on many routes.
Passengers will be given the option of providing the numbers of other trains that they would consider taking, while booking the one on which they are wait listed.
Though the idea is still in initial stage, once it materialises it will give relief to thousands of passengers who are unable to travel on wait listed tickets.
The proposal is a win-win situation for both passengers and railway authorities since passengers can travel without much inconvenience and Indian Railways can fill up empty seats and berths on otherwise empty trains.
