How 2 Brave Constables Saved the Life of 44 BSF Personnel in Jammu

Two constables, Subhendu Rai and Rocky, fought off heavily armed terrorists to save the lives of 44 BSF personnel in Jammu, but succumbed to their injuries themselves. We salute these martyrs!

Constable Subhendu Rai of the Border Security Force was driving a bus carrying 44 BSF personnel, about 10 km from Udhampur, when the vehicle was attacked by two Pakistani terrorists.

While one man started firing from a hill, the other, later identified as Noman, attacked from the front of the bus.

Rai was hit but, according to the BSF, the brave injured constable hung on to the driver’s door and did not let Noman get in.

Noman then circled the bus, firing from his AK47 and attempting to get in from one of the other doors. This time, it was Constable Rocky, who was seated on the front left of the bus who engaged him with his INSAS rifle and emptied the entire magazine at him.

The courageous constable was the only armed man on the bus and his actions saved the lives of the others. Noman died on the spot.

The second terrorist fled from the scene but was later caught by some brave villagers who turned him over to the police and army. He has said that the two were trained by Lashkar-e-Taiba in Pakistan.

Both Constable Rai and Rocky later died of the bullet wounds they sustained during this gun battle. We pay our respects to these fighters, men who exemplify what it means to serve one’s country and give their own lives selflessly, if needed.
