Classical music aspirants will very soon get a chance to participate in a competition dedicated to Carnatic music. The Sangeeth Samraat — Carnatic Premier League 2015, is all set to begin from August 15th.
We’ve all heard of sports leagues for cricket and kabaddi, among others. And music competitions on TV like Indian Idoland Sa Re Ga Ma. But have you ever heard of a premier league for classical music?
The Sangeeth Samraat — Carnatic Premier League 2015, will be held in the form of a reality talent show, with the aim of popularising Carnatic music and helping aspirants make a career in classical music. Organizations like Abayam Creations and Carnatica will get together for this purpose.

The League will be launched on August 15 and will look for classical music talent from across the globe. The auditions will soon be held in Bangalore, Chennai, Coimbatore, and Hyderabad, and also outside India in the US, Singapore and Dubai.
The competition will be divided into categories for vocalists, instrumentalists, classical choirs, and corporate bands. There will also be different age groups in the competition. Those below 12 will win the title of Sangeeth Bala Samraat and those between 13 and 30 will win the Sangeeth Yuva Samraat title.
The Chennai auditions are scheduled for August 22 and 23, and the final event will also be held in Chennai in January next year. The show will be telecast on Sankara TV.
According to Carnatic musician and creative head of the venture, K.N. Shashikiran, the title winners will get a chance to perform in 20 concerts in India in December and they will also be going abroad to perform. They will be trained by veteran musicians.
This is being considered a great initiative as it will encourage young people to build a career in classical music.
