10th Pass Punjab Lad Converts Petrol Bikes Into Low-Cost EVs Amid Fuel Price Hike

As a child, Punjab-native Simarjit Brar’s greatest desire was to become an engineer. He grew up watching his father repair every piece of faulty equipment. But his family couldn’t afford his studies so Simarjit’s education reached a halt by class 10.

However, this never stopped him from discovering new things.

When the fuel prices hit Rs 110 this year, Simarjit wanted to buy an electric bike. Knowing he couldn’t afford a new one, the youngster decided to build one for himself.

He picked up an old bike from the trash, removed its engine and replaced it with a motor. This was partly successful but he was not happy with its speed and mileage.

After toiling for a year, he made a better version of it which can travel up to 200 km after a single charge.

Word spread around nearby villages and Simarjit received many orders. Till date, he has converted 40 bikes to EVs. He thanks his father and the internet that helped him during the process.

His venture, Fateh Electric Bikes, now aims to help farmers in the villages as much as possible through the innovation.
