People in West Bengal will be able to get information on the exact price of crops at any specific location in Bengali. The agency is trying to make the number toll-free.
Soon a mobile-based service will help to find out the price of any crop in the market at any location in West Bengal.
Centre for Development of Advanced Computing’s (C-DAC) Kolkata unit will start a voice-based phone service in Bengali that will provide information on the price of the crops in the market.

Anyone can avail the service by dialing a number. After providing the location, the users will be required to give the name of the product whose market price they want to know. After this a voice reply will be sent to their phone providing details of the exact price on that day.
The technology has not been launched yet and the team is hoping to get a toll free number before the launch. The technology is already available in languages like like Hindi, Assamese, Tamil and Telugu. The Kolkata unit has developed it in Bengali to make it more useful to the local community.
Apart from the useful project, the agency has also been digitising rare books and gramophone records of Rabindra Bhavan at Visva-Bharati. Over three million pages have been digitised so far.
