In UP, Get Your Traffic Updates Live on Facebook, Twitter and WhatsApp

Commuters can now get real time traffic updates, post complaints, share photos and do a lot more using social media. The initiative will kickstart soon and will be followed by a dedicated app and website.

UP police will now be utilizing the power of social media to send live traffic updates to improve the traffic condition in all 75 districts of the state.

Additional Director General and Director (Traffic), Anil Agrawal, has directed the traffic police officials to create Facebook and Twitter pages for their respective districts where people can check traffic status, post complaints and suggestions in addition to uploading photos and comments.

The state police will also be issuing a WhatsApp number through which people can engage with the traffic police officials. With social media becoming such an important part of our lives, these live alerts can help warn people about the routes they should avoid in case of an emergency.

The officials also conducted a two-day workshop organized by Delhi-based cyber expert Rakshit Tandon to train officers about the various aspects and uses of social media and how they can leverage that.

Once the initiative kick starts, the platform will be used to provide necessary information to the commuters such as real time traffic updates, any short term bandh, etc.

Users can engage through these platforms using three categories: traffic issues, suggestions and complaints.

After successful implementation of first phase, UP traffic police plans to launch a dedicated traffic management app and website.
