The girl from Guntur is making waves by winning two Golds and a Bronze and coming 9th in the Blitz category of the 16th ASEAN age group chess championship.
​B​ommini Mounika Akshaya from Guntur comes from a humble background, with her father holding a regular job in the field of education and her mother doing the same. But this girl has been gaining accolades everywhere since the year 2008.

She was born in 2003 and began playing chess at the age of 4, taking part in a district tournament at 5 and going on to State tournaments. She wants to be a Woman Grand Master for chess.

And she will win the title someday, people, because if her lists of achievements are anything to go by, this girl could very well achieve her largest and most ambitious goal.

She won a bronze medal in the under-12 rapid girls segment by hauling five points out of seven rounds this Tuesday for the 16th ASEAN age group chess championship that was happening  in Singapore.

She finished ninth in the blitz category while losing to Tan Huynh Thanh of Vietnam and drawing with fellow Indian Swarna Braganza and Bach Duong of Vietnam to make it to the podium. The Indian team won the gold in the blitz and silver in the rapid segments with her, Salonika Saina and Swarna Braganza constituting the team.

She is trained by Ponnur-based Murali. Before this, she won two gold medals in the U-12 standard segment and also won notably in the Under-11 Category in 2014.
