Indian football enthusiasts are probably feeling a bit low after India failed to qualify for the 2018 Football World Cup. However, all is not lost and every failure takes us a step closer to our goals. This happened in the qualifying match as well.
Prolific striker Sunil Chhetri became the first Indian footballer to score 50 international goals in the match.

Chhetri headed in a cross from right after Guam took a 2-goal lead by scoring in each half. Chhetri’s move reduced the margin for the visitors in added time.
30-year old Chhetri is the captain of the Indian National football team. He is also the striker for Bengaluru FC in the I-league.
He was born in Secundrabad, Telangana. He is also a notable name because he is the third player from the subcontinent to go abroad for a stint. His was with Kansa City Wizards.
Chhetri helped India win the Nehru cup in 2007, 2009 and 2012 and the 2011 SAFF championship. India qualified for the AFC Asian cup after 27 years when he was at his best in the 2008 AFC cup challenge.
He is also the 23rd footballer to be a recipient of the Arjuna Award and has played for other Indian footabll clubs like the Mohan Bagan.

In fact, Chhetri has scored all of India’s goals in the team’s four joint preliminary round in 2018 World Cup qualifying games.
