Uttarakhand police has trained an expert team on carrying out rescue and search operations in tough, high altitude locations. They will be taken on various expeditions to prepare themselves to handle natural calamities and much more.

Uttarakhand police has come up with the country’s first high-altitude search and rescue team, who will be trained in carrying out rescue operations in high-altitude locations of the state.

The 16 members of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) successfully climbed Mount Bhagirathi II (6512 m) in just 10 days, creating a record.

In the first successful mountaineering expedition carried out by any department in the Uttarakhand government, 16 out of a total of 24 personnel of the contingent climbed the mountain.

The team was given special training in the Himalayan areas during their expedition which was led by Inspector General of Police (IG) Garhwal, Sanjay Gunjyal, along with SDRF Commandant P Renuka Devi and Deputy Commandant Navneet Singh Bhullar.

The expert team will be trained to perform search and rescue operations in case of any mishaps in the mountain.

They will be handling cases of a mountaineering expedition accidents, natural disasters and other incidents in high altitude locations of Uttarakhand.

Uttarakhand police will be the first police force in the country to have a specialized team dedicated to high altitude operations and the SDRF personnel will be regularly taken on such expeditions to prepare them for any kind of emergency situations in such locations.
