“Mary Kom Jr”, the animation series based on Mary Kom’s school life, will have a flavour of self-defence and girl power. Here’s all you need to know.
Mangte Chungneijang Mary Kom, India’s boxing champion, will soon be seen in India’s first female superhero series “Mary Kom Jr.” in an animated avatar.

Jointly produced by ScreenYug and Aditya Horizons, the animation series will be based on self-defence and girl power.
The 32-year old Olympic-winning boxer signed up the deal as she believes it would be an interesting way to motivate a girl child.
“I think it is time to take more responsibility for the girl child. I want girls to be confident, strong,” she said.
The series will have a Manipuri tinge when they show a fictional version of Mary Kom’s school life, but will have other characters with a neutral tone to appeal to a global audience.

Kom will get royalties from the global sales of the animation series, any merchandise, story books, games, comics, online distribution, etc. in the future through this licensing agreement.
“Mary Kom Jr” is being produced by Ashish S. Kulkarni and his team including Vikram Veturi (director), Sudip Banerjee and Aditya Bakshi (concept and story directors), JV Varaprasad (editor and music director), Rajesh Bhosale (line production) and Anand Pandey (production architect).
Kom’s story has always been an inspiration for many. After the powerful movie based on her life, we are eagerly waiting for the animation series too!
