The Airport Authority of India plans to save 6 percent energy this year. Here is how solar power will help them achieve it in Ahmedabad.
Ahmedabad airport will soon flaunt solar panels on the roof of both its domestic and international terminals by next year.
Airport Authority of India has decided to make Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel international airport solar powered to reduce operational expenses and bring down power costs.

The airport’s current power consumption is 25,500 megawatt per year, which on an average costs around Rs. 21 crore. AAI aims to save six percent on energy costs this year.
To achieve the target, they will also put LED lights, solar powered street lights, and five star rated energy appliances. A regular energy audit will also be conducted.
The process to save energy has already started at the airport with lights on runway being replaced with LED lights.

Next step will be to install solar panels of 700 KW on the roofs of the terminals. These panels will be sufficient to fulfill the lighting needs of the airport. Solar powered barbed wires on the boundary of the airport will also be installed to keep the monkeys and birds away from entering the airport area.
To take their initiative to the next level, AAI will also make sure to shut down less needed air conditioners at the international terminal during the day when there is least flight movement.
AAI is targeting at least eight percent energy saving next year. With such planned processes in place, Ahmedabad airport will definitely set a great example in energy saving. We eagerly wait to see the final results.
