When Chandan Kumar, a resident of Kushinagar, forgot a money bag carrying about Rs. 20,000 as he traveled from Bareilly to Fatehgunj Tehsil (West) in a bus bound for Kanpur, he had little hope of recovering it. However, he had not expected the UP Roadways to assist him and the conductor and driver to safeguard his money as they drove back to Bareilly. The duo of the driver, a Rakesh Kumar Gupta and the conductor, Sanjay Saxena has been dubbed as good Samaritans for their responsible deed the previous Thursday.
Chandan Kumar had traveled the route on Wednesday night and got off at Fatehgunj, without realizing that he had left his money bag in the bus. It was on the Thursday morning that he approached the roadways authorities hastily. The authorities informed the staff of the said bus, who were making a return trip to Bareilly.
The duo checked the bus thoroughly and, after finding the bag and checking its contents, they secured it with themselves and contacted Chandan, asking him to collect his belongings from the old roadways bus station in Bareilly.
The bag was returned to Chandan after the bus entered the bus station and the facts were verified by the officials of the bus depot. Both the conductor and driver said that they were happy that their efforts to secure and return the bag were successful. The regional manager of the UP State Road Transport Corporationhas recommended a cash reward for the duo and said that regardless of the decision on the cash prize, the two would be felicitated on the Foundation day of the corporation.
