Today, the President of India gave his assent to the Maharashtra Animal Preservation (Amendment) Bill, 1995. With this amendment, slaughter of both bulls and bullocks is now completely prohibited.

In a tweet, the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Mr. Devendra Fadnavis expressed thanks to the President for his assent.

While on one hand this ban will help prevent the slaughter of thousands of animals, on the other hand this ban will also render thousands of people without jobs, jobs that they’ve been carrying on for decades.
