Often, women in public places—particularly in crowded areas—undergo the indignity of being molested.
These perpetrators are sometimes caught, but more often, they manage to escape. Sometimes the woman may not be in the right frame of mind and lets the incident go.
However, a 16-year-old girl and her friend on a local train in Mumbai were in no mood to let go.
Earlier this week, when the duo got on a local train at Dadar station, the alleged molester first put his hand on one of the girl’s shoulders. When she turned around to confront the accused, he molested her; the police informed the Times of India.

When the girl screamed, the accused slipped into the crowd. Later, when the train stopped at Kurla, the girls spotted him in the same compartment.
They caught hold of him, and once they disembarked in Mulund, the alleged molester assaulted the girl’s friend and attempted to flee. However, passers-by grabbed the molester and attacked him.

Fortunately, the police soon arrived at the spot, caught the alleged molester, took the teenager’s statement and arrested him.
Since the incident had happened in Dadar, the police took the accused back to Mulund, and as he had suffered injuries, he was given the necessary medical treatment at the Sion Hospital.
The man has been booked under the POCSO Act for sexual assault, reports the Mumbai Mirror, and is under police remand for four days.
The defence advocate for the accused has claimed that his client is innocent and wrongly identified. The police, meanwhile, are looking into whether the accused has committed similar offences in the past.
