According to a Hindustan Times report, the Maharashtra government on Friday said that moviegoers would no longer have to pay more than the regular price for food, water and beverages at multiplexes in the state.

Additionally, they would also be allowed to take their food and beverages inside.

Ravindra Chavan, Minister of State for Food and Civil Supplies, told the publication, “The central government is coming up with a legislation on August 1 that will ensure food cannot be sold at different prices at different places.”

This was in reply to the issue raised Dhananjay Munde in the Legislative Council for attention motion asking, “How multiplexes and malls can charge different prices of food and water than the regular prices?”

Chavan also added that the government had already instructed multiplex owners in the state that they cannot order a prohibition on moviegoers from taking outside food in the theatres.

This also comes in line with the Bombay High Court’s decision while hearing public interest litigation (PIL) that the food inside multiplexes should be sold at regular prices and people cannot be prohibited from taking their food to the multiplexes

So enjoy your film without having to care about overpriced popcorn or sitting on an empty stomach for three hours!
