How a State Security Force Jawan Saved a Toddler from Being Run over by the Train!

Maharashtra Security Force Jawan, Sachin Pol, became a hero on Saturday morning. He had risked his life to save a toddler from being run over by a train at Mumbai’s Mahalaxmi station.

All it took the young jawan to leap into action was about three seconds.

Piyush Goyal tweeted the CCTV video where the five-year-old can be seen boarding the train with her father, Mohammad Dishaan, and her mother. The family of three was returning home to Bhiwandi after visiting the Haji Ali shrine.

The couple was trying to board the running train, but in a matter of seconds, they lost hold of their daughter’s hand, who fell face down.

Before she could be sucked into the fatal gap between the running train and the platform, the jawan who was seated on his desk watching the event unfold, jumped into action and pulled the toddler from under the train.

He knew he could have been pulled under too, but the jawan’s priority was to save the young girl’s life.

Both of them sustained minor bruises but were immediately given first aid at the station’s medical room.

The video has gained media attention and public outcry. Twitterati are criticising the mother for having boarded the train without letting her child in first.

Dishaan spoke to Mumbai Mirror and said that his wife was new to the city and was unaware that the train would move so fast. “I was walking ahead and she was holding our daughter’s hand. The train was stationary when we went to board it, but then it started moving and picked up speed. I will be grateful to the man who saved my daughter’s life,” he said.

Sachin Pol lives in Lower Parel and has been working with the Maharashtra Security Force for the last two years. He was lauded for his quick action and presence of mind. The jawan earns a humble monthly salary of Rs 14,000 may soon be given a raise or a cash prize.

Speaking to the publication, Principal Chief Security Commissioner, Western Railway, A K Singh, who reviewed the video and is impressed by Pol’s bravery said, “He will be rewarded suitably.”

This incident also raises eyebrows about the danger posed by the killer gaps on railway stations. While we hope the railway ministry looks into it, it is also important that parents and guardians learn from this incident to take extra care of kids while boarding locals.
