There have been many untoward instances of selfie-related deaths. All tragic loss of lives, of youth who thought they were having a good time.
Well, it takes an instant for joy to change to disaster.
Recently, there was an incident where a young man tried to climb up an oil tanker, in Kovvur yard, to get the perfect shot, but a high voltage OHE transaction ensured he never climbed down. The shock severely burned him, and he succumbed to his injuries in a Government hospital.
To ensure that incidents like these do not happen again, the Railway police have started a campaign to inform people not to be click-happy and foolhardy, as their actions often end up affecting railway services.
Henceforth, taking a selfie by trespassing on to railway tracks or railway property, which poses a danger either to yourself or leads to a disruption of train services, might land you in prison.
The offenders will be booked under Section 147 of the Railway Act, which in a nutshell, deals with trespassers on railway property. The patrolling teams will crack down on people indulging in foolish actions, taking selfies, according to Superintendent of Police, Government Railway Police, Secunderabad G Ashok Kumar, in the Times of India.

Selfie-related deaths were supposed to be curbed after the Railways had announced the creation of dedicated ‘selfie spots,’ where the shutterbugs can hang out. Read more about that here. However, that project still seems to be in the pipeline, and till it materialises, this seems like a prudent measure by the Railways to ensure people don’t take selfies especially on tracks.
