Mesram Chandrabhan is a 53-year-old assistant sub-inspector of Police working in Adilabad district. What’s special about him you ask? Well, he is the first Adivasi Sub Inspector in this district.
The Pardhan Adivasi belongs to the 1985 batch of constables. Barely two years after his induction into service he was awarded the Mukhya Mantri Shourya Pathakam in the 1987 ambush by Naxalites in the forest of Allampalli, in which ten policemen, including two SI’s, had lost their lives.
He was presented the medal by the then Chief Minister NT Rama Rao and was elevated as head constable for saving his colleagues. He had also initiated measures for the upliftment of the Adivasis.
Reports suggest that during the Naxal ambush, Chandrabhan had played dead when the extremists came to ascertain if all the injured were still breathing.
A native of Jatarla village in Bazarhathnoor mandal, his appointment is also significant in the face of the ongoing standoff between the Adivasis and Lambadas.

The Superintendent of Police praised Chandrabhan and said that he had been rendering unparalleled services to the department. In a report published in Telangana Today, he said, “Chandrabhanu is not only pivotal in protecting law and order, but in bringing the situation under control in Utnoor a few weeks ago. He has been an honest cop and accomplishes all tasks assigned to him. I am proud to promote him.”
