Kolkata, the original capital of culture and the city of joy, has also adapted to a metro culture.
When you visit the beautiful capital city, you are sure to visit the Victoria Memorial, the Science City, and the Howrah bridge. The streets that once saw cultural icons like Rabindranath Tagore walking around are now filled with skyscrapers.
Even as the city changes, it is also firmly rooted in its rich heritage. Kolkata shows a stark contrast between new and old.
Ayush Dinker travelled around Kolkata, searching for the perfect confluence of an age-old culture and the modern way of life.
He owns a YouTube channel called Ethereal which depicts the unique beauty of the cities in India. “I make films around human conditions, often using travels as a means to speak my mind,” he says. “I first narrow down on the concept that I want to convey and talk about and then figure out what place or characters are suitable to go out and shoot for the theme that I am following.”
For Kolkata, he emphasises on the contrast between eras that the city has perfectly adapted.
The 28-year-old engineer, who is from Ranchi, does an in-depth research about the city he is featuring. “I do an internet and offline research about [the city], which can be anything from creating a Google map of the place to reading a book. Then I talk to people from that particular area who can guide me in finding the correct direction. Having said that, the real fulfilment comes when you finally go out and discover things yourself,” says Ayush.
