Want to Lower Delhi’s Smog? Now You Can ‘Pillion’ Ride an E-Bike Taxi in the City

To tackle its continual battle with air pollution, citizens of Delhi have come up with a new solution. With an eco-friendly e-bike taxi services, residents can soon opt for a pollution-free commute option.

Pillion‘, which is the first two-wheeler e-bike taxi service in the city, functions in Karol Bagh, Jhadewalan and surrounding areas and has 60 battery-operated bikes ready for use. The initiative is a much-needed move in the national capital, given the amount of pollution and smog the city is grappling with.

The initiative also enables last mile connectivity with zero pollution and no big charge. One can avail the provision at a sum of ₹15 and ₹5/km by dialling 82528-82528. Also, one can use the bikes after alighting from metro stations from parking slots. This move will benefit office-goers and students, in particular.

Initiated by Nikhil Malik, Karan Chadha, and Pawneesh Rampal in April 2016, the e-taxi service has the potential of emerging as the perfect eco-friendly alternative commute.

“There is an urgent need to switch to an environment-friendly mode of transport. We have increased the number of e-bike taxis to help commuters avoid the traffic mayhem as well as contribute to arrest the rising problem of air pollution,” Karan told India.com.

With the increasing number of vehicles on Delhi’s roads significantly contributing to the already dwindling air quality, the service can help alleviate the crisis as well as ease traffic congestions too.

Keeping safety as their core objective, every driver employed by Pillion has been inducted following rigorous rounds of screening and police verification. This is followed by comprehensive training for the drivers that include various aspects of customer management and satisfaction, safe driving practices, adherence to traffic rules and first-aid management.
