This Brave Girl Just Took Father-Daughter Relationships to an All New High

In the last two decades, approximately 10 million female foetuses have been aborted in India. Mothers who bear daughters go through immense abuse and pressure, as daughters are considered a financial burden on the family. Campaigns like ‘Save The Girl Child’ have emerged in the last few years, to counter this outdated perception and urge the parents to put an end to this unacceptable practice.

At a time like this, the story of a daughter who saved the life of her father is an important benchmark in this struggle. In his Facebook post, Dr Rachit Bhushan Shrivastva wrote about Pooja Bijarnia, a brave daughter, who underwent a liver transplant to save her father. He believes that Pooja is a real life hero and her story is a sharp retort to all those who consider daughters to be inferior to sons.

Dr Rachit has also posted a picture of Pooja and her father brandishing their post-surgery scars. The post has been widely shared on the internet, with users expressing their respect for her.
