Railways’ New Track to Cut Distance Between Delhi & Bengaluru by 380 Km!

A dedicated railway track, which connects Bidar and Kalaburgi was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday, where he had also flagged off the first train on the route, in presence of Railway Minister Piyush Goyal.

What makes the 110 km track impressive is that it will help reduce the distance for long distance trains shuttling between Bengaluru and New Delhi by almost 380 km. It cuts travel time by six to eight hours.

According to Financial Express, the new rail track will connect Bidar and Bengaluru directly, with no foreseeable outages between the 690 km stretch.

Reportedly, the project was commissioned as early as 1996 but never saw the light of the day until 2000. However, inadequate fund allocations and land acquisition related delays further dragged the project to the state of almost being stalled.

Due to multiple pauses over the years, the budget of the project, which had originally been ₹370 crore ended up escalating to a massive budget of ₹1,542 crore.
