Here’s Why This Mumbai MBA Graduate Quit His High-Paying Job to Drive a Cab

Would it make us respect our cab drivers more if we knew they were MBA graduates and once had high-paying corporate jobs? Would it make us respect them any less if they didn’t?

A Mumbai-based cab driver has risen above the stigma attached to his job. Humans of Bombay recently featured the unnamed man, who says he grew up in a middle-class family and worked really hard while studying in school.

“I did my B.S in Microbiology and went onto get my MBA in Marketing. I got a high paying corporate job, and was earning really well.” the post read.

But it wasn’t enough for him. He wanted to study further. He wanted to finish his PhD, and that wouldn’t have been possible with a corporate job. So he quit his job, and decided to focus all of his time on studying for the entrance exams alone.

However, he needed to provide for his family as well. This was when he started to drive for Ola and Uber cabs.

For him, it is like any other job. However, it is hard for people to sometimes understand why an educated man like him would want to become a driver. To such people, he has only one thing to say – “no job is too big or too small – it’s all the human ego that makes us feel this way.”

“I have designed my car in a way where all my customers feel at home – I keep a wide range of magazines, strong wifi, coffee and biscuits and my personal collection of curated music! If you’re not entertained by all these things, you can always stir up a conversation with me – I love healthy debates!” he is quoted in the post.
