To make cabs in the city safer, the Delhi police is introducing Quick Response (QR) codes in the cab so they can track your ride and make sure your journey is safe.
These QR codes can be scanned using the Himmat app, which was launched in 2015.
“The moment a passenger scans the QR code, the details will reach our special control room which has been set up especially for this purpose. The monitoring system will generate an SMS and send it to the passenger’s mobile phone as an alert,” Sanjay Baniwal, special commissioner of police (airport and modernisation), told Hindustan Times.
You don’t only need the Himmat app to avail the facility.
Passengers without a smartphone can also avail it by sending an SMS to 8130099100, with the number of the QR code.
The system is designed to revert automatically with an SMS, which contains details of the driver and the vehicle. The control room will also keep track of the passenger’s journey.
The Delhi police started the trial run for the facility. The QR code was installed in 10 black and yellow taxis operating at the city’s airport reports the publication.
A card will be placed behind the cab driver, which will have the QR code, driver’s photograph and other details.
Once you scan the code, the details of the vehicle, driver and the location are tracked on the app. After that, three messages will be sent to you. The first asking if you’re safe, failure of responding to which will lead to further action.
