Fares, Timings & Speeds: All You Need to Know About the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Trains

On September 14, Prime Minister of Japan, Shinzo Abe, and Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, will lay the foundation stone for the much-awaited Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train.

There will be two types of bullet trains, with different speeds. One is a high-speed train, which will stop at all the ten stations on the proposed high-speed corridor between Mumbai and Ahmedabad. It will take 2 hours, 58 minutes to reach its destination.

The other is a rapid high-speed train, which will only stop at major stations. It will cover the distance in 2 hours, 7 minutes, reports Hindustan Times.

While the fare is yet to be decided, it is expected to be almost double the current first class AC fare of trains running on the route, which ranges between ₹1,800 to ₹3,000.

So going by what officials from the National High-Speed Rail Corporation (NHSRC) told HT, the fair could be anywhere between ₹3,000 and ₹5,000, depending on the train speed. This is close to what a flight ticket between Mumbai and Ahmedabad is.

“It is too early to decide the fare structure, but the fares will definitely be higher than the first AC fare of mail express. Fare structure of Rajdhani and Duronto is also being considered,” a railway board official told HT.

The cost of this project will come around to be ₹1,10,000 crore, for which a loan of ₹88,000 crore will be taken from Japan.

Other details of the bullet trains are still being worked out by the ministry of Railways, reports the publication.
