Work in progress—you’ve seen them behind these boards. Lifting heavy loads, they’ve worked through the scorching heat of the sun and even sweated it out in the rains. Their hours of hard labour for a meagre income and the toil of their hands will soon see the light of the day. For most of us, they seem like faceless labourers. But for Kochi Metro, they are one big family.
Keeping up with its trend of firsts, Kochi metro thanked its 800 migrant workers with a traditional banquet called ‘sadhya’ on Sunday.
With just days left before this awaited Rs 5,181crore infrastructure project in Kerala is officially rolled out, metro authorities decided to thank the workers with a moving gesture.
“It has been a long journey for the whole team of Kochi Metro Rail Limited, and we would like to thank our fellow labourers and other workers for doing their part in making Kochi’s dream a reality,” Kochi Metro posted on Facebook.
Top KMRL officials with Managing Director, Elias George IAS sat alongside the construction workers for the banquet.
From different parts of the country, from Assam to central Indian states, the workers savoured the sadhya organised at a hall near MG Road. The youth also danced to popular Bollywood music which was rendered by two singers. A giant message board had workers signing and jotting down their names (interestingly in English)!
Kochi Metro is all set to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday, who will also take the Metro train from Palarivattom and travel till Pathadipalam.
