Raksha Gopal, a humanities student from Amity International School, Noida, scored 99.6 per cent and emerged as the all-India topper of Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) Class 12 board examination, 2017.
She scored perfect 100 in three subjects including English, Political Science, and Economics and 99 in Psychology and History.
But there’s a lot more to Raksha than just her academic skills and interest in humanities. Here’s everything you need to know about the brilliant young woman.
1. Raksha is interested in music and has completed five levels in electric keyboard from a Delhi-based institute that is affiliated with Trinity College of Music, London. She often played the keyboard to beat exam stress.
2. She is also interested in learning new languages and has recently completed a course in French from Alliance Francaise, Delhi. She plans on taking up Spanish next.
3. While students across the country take crash courses or prepare continuously for months to ace the boards, Raksha did not take any tuitions and prepared like she would for any regular exam. “Students often focus on quantity of the syllabus but it is the quality of what you have studied that helps you score in boards,” she told India Today.
4. Raksha is a native of Chennai. Her father, Gopal Srinivasan, works as the Chief Finance Officer of Gujarat Petroleum Corporation. “We never put any kind of pressure on her. In fact, we forced her to take necessary breaks in between study hours. We clearly told her that we don’t have any over the top expectations and she should just give her best without any pressure,” he told Hindustan Times. Her mother, Ranjini is a homemaker. Raksha attributes her success to her parents and elder sister, Prerna.

5. When a multitude of students were sitting before their screens trying to log in and find out their results, Raksha got a call from Union Human Resource Development Minister Prakash Javadekar, who congratulated her. He said that her accomplishment is an inspiration for every child who aspires to take up the humanities stream.
6. Raksha plans to take up political science in the future. It will be a moment of pride for the college that she selects for her higher education.
