Vijayanand Shembekar from Maharashtra has upcycled more than 400 waste coconut shells.
He makes unique hand-made artwork from coconuts, which are all displayed at his art gallery — ‘Ashirwad Kaladalan’, in Alibaug.
At first, he was called ‘crazy’ for collecting coconuts from the road.
But his childhood passion for making the best out of waste and his satisfaction keep him going.
The coconut is first cleaned, cut, ground and glued together.
From miniature vehicles to temples, animal figures and home decor items, he carves breathtaking pieces.
Since every piece is hand-made, Vijayanand spends days on end perfecting them.
Seeing his passion, neighbours and friends readily keep their coconut shells outside his doorstep.
