Mumbai’s Byculla railway station has won the prestigious UNESCO Asia-Pacific Awards for Cultural Heritage Conservation.

India also bagged three more awards at the UNESCO event, which took place in Bangkok on 26 November 2022.

The infrastructure honoured included the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya Museum in Mumbai, the step-wells of Golconda Fort in Hyderabad, and the Domakonda Fort in Telangana.

The 169-year-old Byculla railway station is Indian Railways’ oldest living station, through which the first train of the country passed in 1853.

The station was honoured with the award of merit for conservation.

According to media reports, the restoration work of the station was done by NGO  ‘I Love Mumbai,’ and the Bajaj Group Charitable Trust.
