Staying focused is one of the key aspects for a civil service aspirant to crack the competitive UPSC CSE.

Divya Mittal, an IAS officer who secured an All Indian Rank (AIR) of 68 in the 2012 UPSC CSE, shared a Twitter thread recently elaborating on this.

She serves as the District Magistrate of Mirzapur, Uttar Pradesh, and is an alumnus of IIM Bengaluru and IIT Delhi.

Divya gives out a few tips and tricks to not get distracted and focus on one’s goal based on her experiences. Here they are:

“Keep a tab on phone usage and time spent on each app. Also, maintain physical distance from the phone.”

“Switch the phone off or disconnect the internet. You can use free apps like Blackout to ensure non-usage.”

“To wake up early, make sure that you place your phone away at full volume to resist the urge to switch off the alarm.”

“Take a 15-minute break after every one or two-hour study session.”

“Practice Tratak meditation by fixing eyes on one object for a few minutes which helps in improving concentration.”

“Listen to sound vibrations of 40 Hz or binaural beats available on YouTube to enhance focus.”

“Ensure your body receives sunlight for at least 5-10 minutes a day, through daily exercise.”

“Have a healthy and balanced diet and reduce intake of junk food and munchies.”
