Are you still letting your RO Waste Water go down the drain? If yes, then The Better India is here to help you use it wisely.

With water wastage becoming a rising concern in India, here are three women whose water-saving techniques will leave you inspired!

New Delhi’s Rupali Bajpai Sheryari, Gurugram-based Vidhya Venkat and Bayiravi Mani Mangoankar from Mumbai, conserve an average of 80 litres of water per day!

They are all using the water from the RO for cleaning the floors, flushing toilets, washing cars and watering plants.

“All it requires are certain tweaks in our daily lives. It was a tad bit difficult in the beginning, especially explaining to the househelps why we needed to be prudent and save water. Now they are also making other households they work at change their ways,” shares Vidhya from Gurugram.

Rupali, who lives in New Delhi, follows an ‘only flush thrice a day’ policy in her home. “We use the water collected in the buckets from the kitchen or the air conditioners to flush at other times,” she explains.

Mumbai’s Bayiravi, remarkably, only allows 10 mugs of water to bathe per adult in her home. “Each adult uses about ten mugs of water, while my 6-year-old son gets to use four mugs for his bath. On the rare occasion that he gets ten mugs, it’s like a treat for him,” she says.

For the kitchen water waste, Rupali has placed a huge pot that collects all the water from washing vegetables and utensils. This water is then used to water plants and wash the balcony.

Vidhya, too, collects water from her air conditioning in buckets and drums to use it for mopping the house and cleaning the bathroom.
