1. Sanglaphu Lake Sitting at a striking altitude of 16,670 ft above sea level, this beauty in Sikkim was recently opened to the public. Surrounded by magnificent snowcapped mountains, the lake is only 5 km from Yumesamdong, which is also known as Zero Point in Lachung, Sikkim.

2. Cholamu Lake Another striking beauty of Sikkim, the Cholamu Lake is perched at an altitude of 18,000 feet above sea level. Keep in mind that visitors need special permission to access the area due to its proximity to international borders.

3. Roopkund Lake Located in Uttarakhand, Roopkund Lake has been a source of intrigue and wonder for years. Perched at 16,499 feet above sea level, it was discovered by a forest ranger filled with human skeletons!

The most widely accepted theory is that the skeletons are of a group of pilgrims who were caught in a sudden and severe hailstorm.

4. Manimahesh Lake Sitting in the heart of Chamba District in Himachal Pradesh, the lake is located at an elevation of approximately 13,500 feet above sea level. The lake is said to be the divine abode of Lord Shiva, and is named after the peak Manimahesh.

5. Gurudongmar Lake Sikkim’s Gurudongmar Lake is located at 17,800 feet above sea level. The lake is sacred, particularly to Hindus, Sikhs, and Buddhists. Legend has it that Guru Nanak visited the lake and blessed its waters.

Another legend says that Guru Padmasambhava touched a part of the lake with his walking stick blessing it to never freeze. To this day, that part of the lake remains unfrozen in peak winters.

6. Sela Lake Located at an altitude of more than 13,000 feet above sea level, the lake is located near Sela Pass. During the summers, the lake, which is frozen in winter, transforms into a stunning beauty with pristine blue waters set against the backdrop of towering mountains.

7. Suraj Tal Suraj Tal or ‘Lake of the Sun’, sits at an elevation of approximately 16,040 feet above sea level in the Lahaul and Spiti districts of Himachal Pradesh. Locals believe that taking a dip in its waters can cleanse one of their sins.

8. Tso Moriri Lake Tso Moriri, also known as Lake Moriri or Mountain Lake, is located at an elevation of approximately 15,075 feet above sea level in Ladakh. Set against the backdrop of the majestic Himalayas, the lake is 9 km in length and 3 to 5 km in width.
