Indian celebrities like Alia Bhatt and Priyanka Chopra looked stunning at the Met Gala 2023 in their designer gowns. But did you notice the carpet they were walking on?

The off-white carpet with blue and red lines was the creation of an Indian firm.

Envisioned and designed by Japanese designer Tadao Ando, the design was brought to life by Kerala’s Alappuzha-based design house.

‘Neytt by Extraweave’ is led by two Indian designers — Sivan Santhosh and Nimisha Srinivas.

This is the second time in a row that the design house has made the carpet for the gala.

The carpet, made from sisal fibre derived from agave plants, is biodegradable and sustainable.

Made with a combination of hand and machine work, the 6,960 sq m carpet took around 60 days to complete.

The official Instagram handle of the company shared the news with the public through a post.

“A proud moment for our team to provide carpets to the Met Gala for the second time in a row. Contemporary design, woven with love, is rooted in Kerala. Made in India,” it said.
