Acid Attack Survivor Helps 300 Women Overcome Trauma

At 26, Shaheen Malik was pursuing an MBA and had a bright future ahead.

But her dreams came crashing down when a man attacked her with acid.

90% of her face was severely burned and one of her eyes was completely damaged.

The months ahead were traumatic, with multiple surgeries putting a huge strain on her family’s finances.

Mentally and physically exhausted, Shaheen slipped into depression.

She realized she had two choices:
She could hide herself and become dependent on her parents
Or she could go out in the world and see what life had in store for her.

Shaheen chose the latter, resolving to help other acid attack survivors like her.

She started ‘Brave Souls Foundation’ to support them through
– Surgeries (flip)
– Therapy (flip)
– Education (flip)
– Vocational Training
and much more.

She also set up a shelter home for them, ‘Apna Ghar’.

In the last 10 years, she has helped over 300 acid attack survivors get back on their feet.

Determined to fight for justice, she is also working to eliminate the sale and ease of access to acids
