School of Hope and Empowerment (SHE) is a multi-media, multi-stakeholder impact communication initiative that leverages the power of digital connectivity to support women from hard-to-reach geographies. It is an ecosystem meant to empower women to establish themselves as entrepreneurs and leaders in their communities — using inspiration, education and mentorship.

With SHE, TATA Communications and The Better India aim to create enabling environments of, for and by women entrepreneurs residing in the smaller towns and villages of India. Currently in its first phase, SHE is focused on aspiring women entrepreneurs aged 18-35 from low-income, poor and ultra-poor backgrounds in the peri-urban areas of Dhanbad, Bokaro, East Singhbhum, Hazaribagh and Ranchi in Jharkhand.

Our Objectives

Empower women entrepreneurs with ecosystems that enable success
Inspiring women from hard-to-reach geographies using the power of content
Using media & technology to create large scale social change in women’s entrepreneurship

As a multi-stakeholder initiative, SHE is also about celebrating the ongoing local efforts to empower women. We embrace the spirit of coming together to form a stronger, more resilient, sustainable and collaborative network where we empower each other in reaching and supporting more women. If you are an organisation working to promote women entrepreneurship in Jharkhand and wish to collaborate with us, please write to us at she@thebetterindia.com

Women constitute only 13.76% of the total entrepreneurs (8.05 million out of the 58.5 million entrepreneurs) in India.

Around 36 million SMEs generate 80 million employment opportunities, which thereby contributes 8% of the GDP.

Boosting women’s participation in employment and entrepreneurship in India has the potential to grow the country’s GDP by $ 0.7 trillion by 2025.
