A Delhi Taxi Driver Is Winning Hearts for Returning a Bag With Items Worth ₹8 Lakh

It’s something we can all relate to – leaving behind our belongings in a cab or auto and then completely forgetting about it until it is too late. And in most cases, we don’t even bother tracking it down because we think it is just a lost cause.

Which makes the following story all the more heartwarming for everyone involved.

Debendra Kapri, a 24-year-old taxi driver in Delhi, noticed that a passenger he had picked up at the airport had left behind his backpack in the cab. The backpack, as it turned out, had items (including US currency) worth ₹8 lakh and also had important documents.

As Debendra did not know the identity of his passenger nor the location, he promptly drove to the Domestic Airport police station and dropped off the bag in the custody of the cops.

Sanjay Bhatia, deputy commissioner of police (IGI),spoke to Hindustan Times on the matter noting, “The bag was thoroughly checked. In addition to the US currency notes and costly electronic items, the bag also contained important documents.”

For his selfless act, the Delhi Police has announced that Debendra would be given a cash reward.

This story has a happy ending for everyone involved, as the police were able to successfully track down the passenger after finding a phone number and a wedding card in his backpack. Mubisher Wani, as he has been identified in various news reports, was then told to pick up his bag from the police station – something he promptly did.
