The festival will provide a sharp focus on marine conservation as well as encourage inclusiveness in sports in India.
As the mercury rises, chances are millions across the country are dreaming of spending their summer vacation cooling off somewhere.
Well, as luck would have it, those living in Mumbai can now enjoy doing just that and more. The city will soon witness a unique “Underwater Festival” that will be held from May 6 to May 7 and it will feature a host of activities for all those who just want to escape the wrath of the summer heat.
The festival, which was first held in Pune last year, is once again being organised by Finkick Adventures, a Scuba diving centre. Through a host of activities (ideal for swimmers and non-swimmers alike), the organisers are hoping to help you brainstorm ideas for your next vacation with the help of some adventure enthusiasts.
Over the course of the two days those attending the festival will be able to enjoy activities like Octopush, which is essentially underwater hockey, and even participate in a diver’s obstacle course (for certified divers only).

But it isn’t just about having fun underwater but also letting loose on dry land as well. Hence, activities like slacklining have also been organised.
Ultimately, apart from showing all the attendees a good time, the festival has a clear environmental message to drive home. It hopes to create awareness on marine conservation and to that end there will be talks by various photographers, videographers, marine biologists and conservationists from around the world.

There will also be specific focus on making diving a more inclusive space by creating awareness on the fact that those with movement disabilities should not be held back from doing anything in life – even scuba diving. The organizers will showcase their work with persons with disability, including blind, single amputee, paraplegic and quadriplegic individuals to showcase the need for accessibility in India, especially with regard to sport facilities.
Here’s a glimpse of how the festival took place last year.
