IIM-K Students’ ‘Make Our Kerala’ App Aims to Help Solve the State’s Social Issues

What if there was a one-stop destination for all those who are looking to either create campaigns that are driven towards community development or contribute to social causes close to their hearts.

Well, if you live in Kerala, then the students from the Indian Institute of Management-Kozhikode have developed an app that will do just that for those living in the state.

The android app called Make Our Kerala, allows users to create posts to report on various issues and tag the location and upload images about the cause in order to report a particular problem.

People can also either start campaigns or contribute to help towards campaigns that they are most interested in.

Speaking to The Hindu,  Assistant Professor Sidhartha S. Padhi, who guided the students in the project, said, “Through this app, we hope to achieve a strong platform where people come together for common goals that they have pledged to support. Our vision is to empower the people with right data and tools to ensure accountability.”

For instance, if someone wants to start a campaign to plant a substantive number of saplings, then they just have to upload details about it and tag the location. Other users who are browsing through the app can then offer to pledge their support and take it forward accordingly. Additionally, users can also post and view community updates about their locality through the app and they can also post comments.
