Sometimes social media can make one feel like they are in a war-zone. Given the increasing number of controversies playing out on platforms like Twitter, it is always a breath of fresh air when everyone decides to put aside their differences and get along with one another.
And that’s exactly what happened with Indian Twitter recently when thousands joined in to celebrate everything that makes this country tick. And all it took was a reminder of an iconic song to do so.
It all started when one user, in response to the debates around singer Sonu Nigam’s latest statements about “forced religiousness,” came up with the hashtag #MileSurMeraTumhara to appeal for unity.

Anyone growing up in the 80s and 90s would know about the iconic musical number going by the same name that used to be a staple on television channels like Doordarshan.
The hashtag quickly started trending as thousands of Indians started using it as a battle cry for national integration in the spirit of the song.

Even singer Vishal Dadlani got into the spirit and took to Instagram to pay tribute by giving it his own musical twist.

Those on Twitter demonstrated that in India we may all be different but at the end of the day our tunes really do match to become a symphony.
