"I promise I will continue to sing till my last breath," the 16-year-old said in response to protesters calling for a ban on religious grounds.
There is nothing that is going to stop Nahid Afrin from singing. And nothing that will keep thousands of Indians from standing up for the teenager’s right to do so.
Sixteen-year-old Nahid, who gained fame as the first runner-up of the popular singing competition Indian Idol Junior, was scheduled to sing at an event on March 25.
A pamphlet was signed by 46 Islamic clerics calling for a boycott of Nahid and her performance because they argued it was too close to a Mosque and a graveyard.

However, since then, there has been an outpouring of support for Nahid by prominent personalities, politicians and the common man.
Thousands have taken to their social media accounts to throw their weight behind the young singer.
We should respect the art and always remember, art has no religion. I stand with Nahid Afrin #NahidAfrin

Just spoke with #NahidAfrin and her parents. They are standing strong. Told her that we all stand with her.

The tenacious young woman, meanwhile, has bravely stood up for herself and noted that she will not stop singing.
She has been quoted by Firstport as saying, “Ten percent people may be against me but I am happy with the 90 percent standing with me. I want to put an end to all this in the name of religion… people who have a bright future should be encouraged. A great thanks to all my well-wishers for supporting me throughout my journey… I promise I will continue to sing till my last breath.”
