Cop Who Was Fat-Shamed by Shobhaa De Offered Help by Doctor Treating the World’s Heaviest Woman

It is easy to be inconsiderate, ridicule others and laugh at someone else’s cost. So, when last week author Shobhaa De shared a picture of a uniformed police personnel and poked fun at his weight, she drew a lot of criticism for her comment on social media.

The writer had tweeted an image of Inspector Daulatram Jogawat, who is with the Madhya Pradesh police, and erroneously captioned it saying, ‘Heavy police bandobast in Mumbai today!’.

However, sharing his side of the story, the inspector had told Hindustan Times that his weight was due to an insulin imbalance. He had said that he started gaining weight after he underwent a gall bladder operation in 1993, which led him to develop an insulin imbalance.

“If madam wants, she can pay for my treatment. Who doesn’t want to be thin?” the inspector, who weighs 180 kg, had added.

Now, a Mumbai doctor has stepped in to provide medical aid for the inspector. Surgeon Dr Muffazal Lakdawala will help treat Jogawat.

“A team representing Dr Lakdawala had approached us saying they would like to help Inspector Jogawat lose weight. We readily agreed. While the doctors will undoubtedly do their best, the Madhya Pradesh Police will extend all possible help to the inspector through our police medical scheme,” Madhya Pradesh Superintendent of Police Manoj Kumar Singh said, according to Mumbai Mirror.

Dr Lakdawala, a bariatric surgeon at Mumbai’s Saifee Hospital, was in news for helping Eman Ahmed, an Egyptian woman known as the world’s heaviest woman at 500 kg.
