For the Love of His Nation: Anganwadi Helper’s Son Quits TCS Job to Join the Army
Not one to be bogged down by failure, Bharat, who had failed the NDA entrance examination in 2010, cleared the Combined Defence Services exam with his hard work.
He had a high-paying job and a comfortable life as a systems engineer, but Bharat Darbarsingh Jadhav had other plans. Son of an anganwadi helper from a remote village in Buldhana district of Maharashtra, he wanted to join the Army and serve the nation.
He had failed the NDA entrance examination in 2010, but Bharat did not give up and managed to clear the Combined Defence Services (CDS) exam with sheer determination and hard work.

“When I took up the job as a system engineer in 2014 I knew this was not the place I wanted to be for the rest of my life,” he told The Times of India.
An engineer at TCS, one of the largest IT companies, Bharat finally fulfilled his dream when he cleared the Service Selection Board interview, for which he managed to prepare by taking out time from his hectic schedule. He began his preparation for the CDS examinations last year, and also followed an exercise routine to keep fit – as the exams test candidates on their mental and physical abilities.
While Bharat, who is a native of Sutala Budruk village in Khamgaon in Buldhana district, agrees that it was not easy for him to take out time for preparation, he says he “managed to come up trumps.”

Good at studies, Bharat had cleared his BE examinations and secured a job at TCS in Hinjewadi, Pune in 2014. But in his heart, he always wanted to enrol in the Army. And he received immense help and guidance from Lt Col Pradip Brahmankar (retd) who runs an academy in the city. Col Pradip identified his talent and helped him work on his weak areas.
Bharat, who wishes to join the army’s infantry wing, ranked 108th out of 153 candidates. He will be joining the Officers Training Academy, Chennai, in April, where after undertaking a 48-week training, he will be commissioned into the army as a Short Service Commissioned officer.
