
This is how the cricketer responded when he found out that celebrated former boxer Dingko Singh was undergoing treatment for cancer.
Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir has stepped in to ensure former athlete Dingko Singh’s medical bills are taken care. The cricketer has been providing financial aid to the ailing boxer, and also pleading with social media to help the celebrated athlete, who has been conferred with the prestigious Arjuna Award and also a Padma Shri winner.
Dingko, the 1998 Asian Games gold medalist, has been battling from a debilitating form of bile duct cancer. He has been undergoing chemotherapy in Imphal and 70% of his liver has been removed in surgery. But he has struggled to foot his medical bill. His wife spoke to the Indian Express and said, “We have already spent Rs 10 lakh so far and are really worried how we will manage the money for treatment. We definitely need help.”

And that’s when Gambhir got involved. He Tweeted out his support for Dingko and his family by noting, “We must take care of our champions jst (sic) as they make us proud.”

India’s sports minister, Vijay Goel, has also come forward and noted that the government is also taking care of Dingko’s medical expenses and extended his prayers for the celebrated boxer.
Dingko Singh has been provided initial financial aid & he has been assured that whatever his needs are will be taken care of.
