A Recent Report Named Bangalore the Most Dynamic City in the World! Here’s What That Means

Bangalore has been declared the most dynamic city in the world by Jones Lang LaSalle. Cities were adjudged on how well they are connected to a global network, how they foster innovation, and more.

This might come as a surprise to anyone currently stuck in Bangalore’s traffic, but the city has been declared the “most dynamic” one in the world.

The annual City Momentum Index conducted by Jones Lang LaSalle, an investment management company specialising in real estate, ranked Bangalore at the first place. Hyderabad is at the fifth spot trailing Ho Chi Minh City, Silicon Valley, and Shanghai.

The index has ranked 134 hubs and cities based on 42 variables.

So what criteria did Bangalore and other cities have to fulfill to rank so high in this list? In a press release, Jeremy Kelly, JLL Director of Global Research, said that cities were ranked based primarily on how fast they are able to grow in a period of time. He says, “The CMI highlights that despite various political upheavals and ongoing economic uncertainties, many cities continue to show impressive dynamism. Keys to their success are the agility and openness that enable them to adapt quickly to each new wave of global change.”

In other words, innovation and technology were key.

For the most part, this survey seems to have boiled down to how well a particular city is at adapting to changes, especially ones that are technological in nature. Cities were judged on how they encourage and foster innovations too.

Cities were also adjudged on how well they are connected to a global network, the state of literacy among the citizens, the environment, and the presence of corporate headquarters. The cities on top of the list were the ones with GDP much higher than their nations.

Environment and housing were other key factors that were considered.

Bangalore’s rank may also come as a surprise as the city has been embroiled in debates regarding the safety of women. That said, it also attracts maximum investment in the country and is still very much the IT hub of India.

And as this survey proves, it is still a force to be reckoned with on a global stage.
