When Twitter user Sulagna Chatterjee took to the platform to narrate the epic love story of her parents, she had no idea it would go viral. But the tale that rivals the plots of top Bollywood romantic films, seems to have transfixed desi Twitter. From a romance that blossomed between two childhood friends to a disapproving father, the story has all the ingredients for the next Karan Johar blockbuster.
Oh and there’s even a run-away bride!

Sulagna notes that her mom was five and her dad was seven when they met and became friends. Their friendship thrived till their teen years when they realised that they liked each another as more than friends.

Problems began when the young couple realised that the girl’s father was dead-set against this rishta. He even resorted to send his daughter away to her aunt’s place in order to break them up.

When the lovebirds realised that they were not going to get approval no matter what, they decided to take matters into their own hands and elope.
So mom writes a total dramatic letter to Nana and Nani saying SORRY DAD ILY BUT SACCHA PYAAR. And they get married. Dada Dadi totally chill.

And while this created a rift between her mom and her grandparents, this story has a happy ending. Sulagna notes that her grandparents finally came around once her elder sister was born.
So, mom and dad have known each other for almost 45 years and have been married for 27 years. Love, much? ❤

Sulagna says that she has not yet told her parents that their “shuddh desi romance” has gone viral on social media but notes that they’d “totally be chill with it.”
