Transcript:
Two organisations – Dhwani and Samarthan, developed an app called ‘mDemand.’ mDemand app is digitizing application processes to help bring about toilets in rural areas. Officials realised that a lag in the communication process hindered villagers from reaching out to officials to procure toilet subsidies of Rs. 12,000. The organisations are using this app to allow authorities to trace applications from the time they are generated till the time the toilet is finally constructed. The process further helps pinpoint areas where the delays are taking place. It also has a built-in warning system to notify officers about pending applications. The app’s interface is in Hindi. Using this app, all parties – the beneficiaries, government officials, contractors and workers can avoid the communication lag and make the process faster and efficient. The two organisations have reported 500 beneficiaries from 10 villages so far.
