Indian Navy Launches Massive Rescue Operation for 800 Tourists Stranded on Havelock Island
The Indian Navy has launched a rescue operation and has sent four ships to evacuate 800 tourists stranded on Havelock island located 40 km from Port Blair.

According to a report in India Today, the Indian Meteorological Department has observed a depression over south-eastern part of Bay of Bengal (about 310 km from Port Blair), which is moving in the northwest direction and might intensify into a cyclonic storm. The heavy rainfall and severity in the weather can be attributed to this climatic condition.
Considering the possibility of an impending cyclonic storm, the Directorate of Disaster Management of Andamans summoned the Indian Navy. An official statement by the Navy said that it has sent its ships INS Bitra, Bangaram, Kumbhir, and LCU 38.
All the four ships will assist in ferrying stranded tourists from Havelock to Port Blair. While the wind and torrential rains are making it difficult for the operation to accelerate, the safety of tourists is being given top priority. INS Bitra and INS Bangaram, which are small ships, have been dispatched to pick up tourists from the jetty and ferry them to the larger ships, INS Kumbhir and LCU 38.
