“My daughter had turned one and we were waiting for her to speak. When she was not reacting, we went to a private hospital in Mangaluru who said that my daughter has to undergo cochlear implantation surgery. Since it was an expensive affair we went back and started arranging for funds,” Vijay, who works as a coolie, told The Bangalore Mirror.

The total cost of implants and hospital bills will come to approximately Rs. 7.5 lakh. The surgery will be done in Bhagwan Mahaveer Jain Hospital in Bengaluru. The hospital authorities have now told the family that they can do the surgery immediately if they arrange for Rs. 4.3 lakh. Vijay approached the government for the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund from where he has been sanctioned Rs. 2 lakh. But the money can be withdrawn only after the surgery.

While the family was running from pillar to post to arrange as much money they could, a fortunate acquaintance with Seif Sulthan, the founder of Hope Foundation, started making things look brighter again. Hope Foundation is a charitable organization that focusses on changing the lives of children, young people and vulnerable individuals by providing education, healthcare facilities, vocational training, etc. Seif met the Zilla Panchayat president of the village who told him about the child and her condition. Touched by her story, Seif started a campaign named “Help Baby Sudiksha Now. See Your Own Child in Baby Sudiksha” in Mangaluru, which is located about 70 km away from the village. He initially promised Vijay that he will contribute Rs. 2 lakh with the help of donation. And the residents of the city came out in huge numbers to offer help. Hope Foundation has already collected Rs. 5.5 Lakh. Sudiksha will soon have her hearing restored.
