How this farmer’s backyard became home to a peacock farm
A farmer from a small village near Saharsa, Bihar had a fascination for the brilliantly coloured bird and brought two of them to live at his field in 1991. He ensured they had access to food & a qualitative lifestyle. The birds’ population soon grew and they now live harmoniously with the locals. With the peacocks pecking at unusable grain and making occasional visits to the locals’ houses, the local children are thrilled with the prospect of keeping peacock feathers that have been shed.
Today the area is home to over 500 peacocks who roam freely among the fields
A real birds of a feather story, that!
